2017 Painting & Color Trends

color and paint trends for 2017

What are the color trends for the home in 2017? Trends come and go, and you shouldn’t feel pressure to repaint the interior or exterior of your home each year to match the current palette trends. However, knowing the trends of the year will help you when you really like a particular color because that color will suddenly be very easy to find. In addition, you can use the painting trends each year to spruce up a dated area of your home.

Interestingly enough, color trends are actually quite reflective of what is going on around us. Color forecasters draw conclusions from observing the runway, housewares industry, and auto manufacturers. They watch trade shows and magazines for trends, while considering the big occurrences in culture and how the national mood follows those occurrences. All of that is then translated into color trends for the year.

Pantone’s Color of the Year

Los Gatos Townhouse

Pantone’s Color of the Year in 2017 is Greenery, a vibrant, spring-green hue, symbolic of new beginnings. Called nature’s neutral, Greenery inspires people to be involved in the natural world and all its beauty. “Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate and revitalize, Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.

Pantone also released 10 color palettes that incorporate Greenery in unique ways, from Forest Floor which includes several earthy shades of green; to Rev It Up, a palette with a black and white base and several vivid pops of color; to Calm It Down, a pastel and toned-down palette.

Other Colors of the Year

Paint manufacturers have created their own selections of color of the year, and many of them are far more toned-down than Greenery. In fact, most fall more under the blue-gray hue category.

Benjamin Moore

Shadow is a deep, dark-purple gray hue. It adds drama in small spaces, but can be too dreary when used in excess.

PPG Paint

Violet Verbena is a lighter and brighter purple-gray hue than Benjamin Moore’s Shadow. It creates a peaceful feeling in a room.

Glidden

A great neutral, Byzantine Blue is another purple gray that plays well with other colors in the home.

Olympic

Cloudberry is a purple gray that works in many places in the home.

Kelly-Moore

Kettleman is a warm dark gray, used well in small spaces.

Sherwin Williams

Poised Taupe is a cool medium brown that isn’t too warm and isn’t too cold. Many people are going away from the grays of the past few years, and this color is a good compromise.

Behr

Behr didn’t choose just one color of the year. Instead, the company has created three palettes associated with mood. Confident is defined by dusky blues, spicy reds, and lime greens. Composed is earthy greens and taupes for the traditionalist. Comfortable is made up of light blues, pinks, and yellows.

Step Away from Gray and White

Gray and white interiors are far from disappearing, but paint trends are starting to see stark gray interiors being replaced for warmer interiors. In addition, all white is beginning to fade as areas of the home are painted in accent colors — either a wall or a ceiling — to reduce the sterile look and add warmth back into the palette.

When considering how and if you want to incorporate new color trends into your home, it’s a good idea to consider what makes you feel comfortable. Even when something is on trend, it isn’t necessarily the best choice if you feel uneasy in your new home. Use the new colors as a guide, but ultimately, go with what you love.

Disposing Of A Bed Bug Infested Mattress Properly

A large bed bug infestation really is a problem. Bed bugs bite, and can really affect your quality of life. The great thing is, Empire Pest Control have given us this infographic on bed bugs, and disposing of an infested mattress the right way.

Bed bugs are a pest that need to be addressed immediately. Getting rid of them takes a lot of hard work and elbow grease, so it’s probably better to call in the professionals if you have an infestation. Leaving a bed bug infestation and not treating it will seriously impact on yours and your family’s health in a bad way.

Having a bad infestation of bed bugs living in your mattress or home will change the way you enjoy your down time and sleep. An infested mattress will not be pleasant to sleep on at all. Disposing of the mattress or having it treated for bed bugs will definitely improve your quality of life, and make your home and bedroom an enjoyable place to be again.

Some people don’t realise, but bed bugs may be carrying serious diseases, which can be fatal. Improper removal of the mattress or infested furniture will put you, your family and even your neighbours at risk.

There’s some strategies Empire Pest Control have shown you here, to get rid of a mattress infested with pests properly. Not only will you benefit from getting rid of the bed bugs, the rest of your family will too.

If your bedroom is very cluttered, it’s best to clean up that clutter and get more organised. Bed bugs love to infest dark areas where they feel they are hidden. Having a good clean out will free up space in your home that can then be used in a different way moving forward.

Bed bug eradication is a huge challenge. Calling in the right professionals, like Empire Pest Control, will help you overcome the problem. Once the issue is resolved, you will feel so much better for it!
